A Review of the Embassy Suites Hotel at Chevy Chase Pavilion, Washington D.C.

The Embassy Suites Hotel at Chevy Chase Pavilion is a convenient Washington, D.C.-area hotel that is a good choice for a business traveler that wants a hotel with a little more space than a normal, boxy hotel room. The Embassy’s rooms are all suites, with a separate (with a door) bedroom and living room. The Embassy Suites Hotel at Chevy Chase Pavilion is actually located inside a small mall, with shops (including a Starbucks) and restaurants. The hotel/mall is connected to a red line Metro stop, making it easy to get into the heart of D.C. with only one train ride.

Hotel Overview

The Embassy Suites Hotel at Chevy Chase Pavilion is good choice for Washington D.C.-bound business travelers that want a bit more space, easy access to the Metro, and a convenient location.

The hotel is located on top of a metro station (red line), has easy access to shopping and restaurants, and has special business traveler-oriented options like suites, free cooked to order breakfasts, and social hours.

I was impressed with the hotel during a recent stay, especially with its convenience to both Washington’s Metro system, downtown D.C., and the configuration of the rooms. The rooms are all suites, with separate bedrooms and sitting rooms. The sitting rooms have a comfortable couch, chair, table, a large HD TV set, and a good business working area and desk. In addition, the rooms have a small kitchen area with a refrigerator, coffee maker, and microwave. Overall, the hotel and my room were very clean, although there were some stains and scuffs on some of the baseboards. I found the service and front desk personnel to be friendly and helpful.

General room amenities include an iron and ironing board, a large wardrobe, plenty of drawers and workspace, solid lighting and good heating and air conditioning. Guests have free access to the health club and pool, but Internet access will cost extra.

The Business Traveler View

Business travelers who want to get off to a good start will definitely appreciate the Embassy Suites cooked-to-order breakfast, available in the atrium restaurant in mornings. During my recent visit the breakfast not only include a well-stocked selection of cereals, breads, fruits, juices, coffee, and other drinks, but it also includes your choice of cooked-to-order omelets and other hot breakfast items.

In addition, the hotel offers manager receptions (in the same place) in the evenings, where guests and enjoy a free beverage (including beer and wine). A full room service menu is available, and while it’s not exotic, it hits all the right notes for a business traveler who needs something filling.

Guests that want something more upscale can visit Range, the restaurant just on the other side of the Pavilion (an indoor mall), or one of the other restaurants within walking distance of the hotel.

With business travelers in mind, the hotel also has a Health and Swim Club on the Penthouse Level, with an indoor pool, whirlpool, and full fitness center. The fitness center is well-stocked, with cardio equipment as well as weight training equipment. In addition, massages and personal trainers can be arranged.

Like any good business hotel, the Embassy Suites at the Chevy Chase Pavilion includes a comfortable (but not huge) business center, with multiple computers and a printer. Copiers are also available. The business center is open 24 hours a day.

Parking (indoor, self-park) is available for $24 a day (a pretty decent rate for a large-city hotel).

Meeting Rooms and Business Events

The Embassy Suites at Chevy Chase Pavilion has over 6,300 square feet of flexible meeting space facilities.

The hotel’s Mezzanine can host up to 150 guests for reception-style events, while its two ballrooms (The Chevy Chase and the Tenleytown) can handle groups up to 100. The hotel also has boardrooms and executive meeting suites for smaller groups or private meetings.

The hotel also has support for business meetings, from audio/visual equipment to projection equipment to lighting, teleconferencing, computers, and projection. All public areas have wireless Internet access. Video conferencing is available on request.

The hotel is also convenient to an upscale restaurant, Range, in the Chevy Chase Pavilion, where business travelers can also book small, private dining rooms for business meetings.
